Studying grammar is extremely tedious and boring, which, however, should not be neglected. Of course, if you need knowledge of the English language not just to go to foreign seas and enjoy the beach, simultaneously explaining your wishes to the hotel clerk. The debate about whether to study English grammar in depth does not subside to this day. There are two cardinally opposite opinions on this.

The first one is typical for schools with in-depth study of the English language, language institutes and courses. According to this opinion, it is impossible to learn English without grammar. The second opinion was formed from the dissatisfaction of students with an academic education, due to which, people believe that it is not so much grammar that is important as communication skills in English. However, do not confuse these two concepts. What do you not know about English grammar?

A grammar is a set of specific rules that organize the correct use of a language. That is why most English teachers insist that the grammar needs to be simply memorized. As, for example, the multiplication table or the periodic table. But even when you learn all these rules, you will understand that you cannot speak the language. What is the point of studying grammar, you ask?

The answer is simple. Grammar is a method that helps to correctly convey your thoughts, emotions, etc. to your interlocutor. And to express these thoughts in words, we also need vocabulary. How to learn English grammar?

So, proceed to the study of English grammar. In fact, learning these rules is no more difficult than the notorious multiplication table.

Do not try to learn all the rules in one day, but do not stop for a long time on one topic. In the process of studying grammar make a table for clarity and facilitate memorization. Composing such signs, you will understand that English has a clear structure, which is not so difficult to remember. For each rule, invent examples, best from your own life. This will help you better understand the rule and, therefore, remember it. In addition, use the advice of experienced teachers who know all the most effective ways to learn English grammar. Several effective ways to learn English grammar.

The most effective is the method of reverse translation. The essence of this method is simple — you translate only that part of a phrase or sentence that contains the rule being studied, and not the entire phrase. This method helps not to be distracted by unfamiliar grammatical constructions and words, and purposefully work out precisely those aspects that you are studying at the moment. Another great way is from example to rule. This method assumes that you yourself find examples that illustrate the rule.

There are even more interesting methods, about which we have already spoken more than once — songs, poems, reading books in the original. All these methods help not only in mastering unfamiliar vocabulary, but also in learning English grammatical structures. At the same time, these methods cannot be called boring.

There are two basic methods of teaching grammar: inductive and deductive. The deductive method involves the presentation of a grammar rule, its explanation and subsequent practice. And when using the inductive method, the student is given the task of formulating the rule on the basis of the material given by the teacher. Of course, both methods have different advantages and disadvantages.

Practice the knowledge gained by repeatedly drawing up proposals on the topic being studied. This method is called — self-multiple skill development. In any manual after the topic being studied, the student is offered a series of exercises to consolidate the knowledge gained. But this is not always enough. Try to invent as many of your own examples as possible on a given topic, because you probably remember the excellent saying “Repetition is the mother of learning, the father of action, which makes it the architect of accomplishment.”[1]

Let's look at the 3 points that are the basis, and must necessarily be carried out when studying grammar:

  1. Learn from simple to complex
  2. Fully understand every rule.
  3. Fix the use of the rule in your speech.

There would be a desire. Do not be afraid of English grammar. There would be a desire, and the rest is just a matter of time.
